Export codes & documents

Download your documents as Word files with coded segments marked as comments.

The Codes & Documents export gives you annotated Word files where every coded segment in your documents is marked with a comment. This is useful if you want to review your coding in Word or share annotated transcripts with colleagues.

What the export contains

The download is a ZIP file with two parts:

Document files

One Word document (.docx) per source document in your project. Each coded segment (quote) is marked with a Word comment that shows:

  • The full category path (e.g. "Themes > Product quality > Packaging") in bold.
  • The insight text associated with that quote.

If the same passage is coded under multiple categories, it will have multiple comments.

Codebook

A separate Word document listing your complete category hierarchy as a multi-level bulleted list. This serves as a reference for the codes used in the annotated documents.

How to use the export

  1. Click the download button in the project toolbar and select Codes & Documents.
  2. Unzip the downloaded file.
  3. Open any document to see the coded segments highlighted with comments in the margin.

This export is ideal for researchers who prefer working in Word, for sharing annotated documents with team members who do not use Skimle, or for archiving your coded data alongside the source texts.
